WAIT
TIMES GO TO THE DOGS
Regarding your article "Chaoulli's
back, now as private health broker" (May 30, 2007,
Vol 4, No 10), there is severe and ongoing criticism
of waiting time for medical care, specialist consultation,
MRI and CT scans and repair of fractured hips in old
people. Here is an example of the contrary.
Last week, the youngest member
of my family, aged 7, had serious convulsions. On Saturday
a consultation was advised, and by Monday he saw a specialist
and had an MRI and a definitive diagnosis.
The family is very grateful to
the doctors in Collingwood, Barrie and Guelph
and to the excellent standard of care set by the Ontario
Veterinary College!

DCA:
CANCER ANSWER?
I received the latest NRM today andenjoyed reading your
story ("Clinic
prescribes untested cancer 'cure'", June 30, 2007,
Vol 4, No 12) on the hot and controversial topic of
DCA.

CLARIFICATION
The article "Cancer
scandal puts path standards under the scope" (June
15, 2007, Vol 4, No 11), about Newfoundland's troubled
breast cancer testing, contains the statements "more
than 300 flawed estrogen/progestin receptor (ER/PR)
tests in the province had resulted in inaccurate diagnoses
and treatment of breast cancer patients. At least 176
of the women are now dead." The 176 women did indeed
have negative ER/PR and later died, but only 36 of them
had received false test results.
