GOING SCALPEL-FREE
In your article about male birth control, "Complacency blamed for men's inadequate birth control options" (June 15, 2006, Vol 3, No 11) you write that Dr Ronald Weiss is "... one of only two physicians in Canada who offers scalpel-free vasectomies." I know of at least three family physicians (including myself) in Saskatoon alone who offer the procedure. I also know of a few physicians in BC offering this service. I'm sure there are many more across Canada.

Dr Andries Muller, Saskatoon, SK

Editor's response: Dr Ronald Weiss should have been described as "one of the first two physicians to perform scalpel-free vasectomies in Canada."

Rx HABITS
Here's what some of your colleagues had to say about our May 30 poll question, "Do you think we need better monitoring of physicians' off-label prescribing habits?" (see the full poll results):

I am frequently surprised by what patients tell me their prescriptions from other doctors are for

Off-label prescribing allowed us to find out that some meds work best for diseases the drugs weren't initially intended to treat
