WALKING IN AN MD 'WONDERLAND' In
the article "Physician survey
breeds discontent" (Vol 1 No 21), according to what Dr Albert Schumacher,
President of the Canadian Medical Association, says, it appears that doctors like
me no longer exist except maybe in fairy tales. I'm a rural physician who delivers
babies, does house calls and takes care of two nursing homes. I consider my goal
reached when I've reduced my time on the job to a 60-hour workweek. I perform
procedures before and after clinic hours, assist with surgery, fill in the occasional
ER shift and teach. I hope to wake up and still be alive, or die before the fairy
tale ends. Somehow it's hard to believe that the present will become the 'happily
ever after.' Dr Gordon Dyck

ONE HAPPY WINNER I just received
my Epson stylus Photo R300 printer, which I apparently won in a draw from your
newspaper. I'm so pleased with it. The entire experience, from the gentle and
expert editing of my writing, to the satisfaction of seeing my complaints against
the College of Family Physicians published ("Recertification
leaves you certifiable," Vol 1 No 19) topped off by a completely unexpected
win of a draw I didn't even know I was entered in, has been most pleasant. I hope
you will allow me to continue to contribute to your excellent medical newspaper.
